Student safety and supervision is paramount to our functioning school. The duties below account for the supervision of students at times other than the classroom and that have been deemed appropriate. Assigning duties to administration and faculty is the only way to accomplish our goal of student safety and supervision. Furthermore, administration is poised to cover enough duties to meet NPA’s goal of only 1-duty per week for teaching faculty.

General Lunch Duty Protocols

• Teachers on lunch duty should circulate throughout the lunch space.
• Be in the lunch area within 2 minutes of the bell
  • Tag team bathroom break, ask for help to watch the last minute of your class if you need to get to the Spartan Market
• Avoid ‘clumping’ for more than a couple of minutes before continuing to circulate.
• Maintain lines of sight to the majority of the lunch area.
• While circulating, encourage students to pick up their trash, don’t wait until the last 2 minutes to ask for the trash to be picked up.
• When speaking with students, include positive communication. Lunch is an opportunity to build positive relationships and get to know our students
• Give students 5 minute warnings to finalize trash pick up and grab a plastic bag from the front desks and walk around (or assign a student) to walk around and collect trash
• Intervene with poor behavior. Kids should enjoy their lunch but not at the expense of others. Escalate to Visockis, Willis, orr Byers if needed.
• Alert Byers through email if there are students or areas that the next lunch duty squad should be aware of.
