NPA administration is committed to being visible, involved, and supportive. As part of this commitment, observations will be based on a ‘as many as possible’ framework. The school will use the Effective Learning Environments Observation Tool (ELEOT) for all walkthroughs and the Professional Teaching and Behavioral Standards Tool (PTBST) for the ultimate classification of teachers per state statute.
Arizona Dept. of Education requires as yearly classification of teachers based on their performance at the school. There are four classifications that the state adopted from the InTASC Model Core Teaching Standards and that will be used for NPA.
Highly Effective: A highly effective teacher consistently exceeds expectations. This teacher’s students generally made exceptional levels of academic progress. The highly effective teacher demonstrates mastery of the professional teaching and behavioral standards.
Effective:
An effective teacher consistently meets expectations. This teacher’s students generally made satisfactory levels of academic progress. The effective teacher demonstrates competency in the professional teaching and behavioral standards.
Developing:
A developing teacher fails to consistently meet expectations and requires persistent coaching. This teacher’s students generally made unsatisfactory levels of academic progress. The developing teacher demonstrates an insufficient or early level of competency in professional teaching and behavioral standards. The developing classification may be appropriate for new or newly reassigned teachers.
Ineffective:
An ineffective teacher consistently fails to meet expectations and requires a change in performance. The teacher’s students generally made unacceptable levels of academic progress. The ineffective teacher demonstrates minimal competency in the professional teaching and behavioral standards
These standards are adapted from InTasc Model Core Teaching Standards, National Board of Professional Teaching Standards, and the Arizona Department of Education. They are intended to represent the whole of the teaching profession and its various professional responsibilities. The six standards below are distributed into four Values with supporting information. The tool associated with these standards is found under the Observation Tools heading below.
